Final Event for the Year.

The tide was very high and we were trying to build sandcastles on the small area of sand with the waves racing up the beach towards us.  Brightwater School children and parents had a wonderful day at Rabbit Island on Monday. After lunch the children played lots of different games and the teams were  a mixture of children from throughout the school. During the afternoon it became really hot so everyone was very excited when they received a yummy "Juicy" to eat as it was a great way to cool off.
Most children were very tired at the end of the day but they had a fantastic time away from school!

Mix and Make Day

On Thursday afternoon Brightwater School children started Mix and Make. The first  thing I did was a lollipop reindeer.  I also did clay and I made lots of things. I also made a christmas cards. One card was for my mum and one was for Flo. Then I made a cute reindeer out of paper and dyed it.
We all did the fun stuff again on Friday morning and in the afternoon we walked around the class to see what cool stuff other people had made.

Amazing Christmas Cards

Room 1 made really cool Christmas Cards with Torin's Mum, Mel. You need two pieces of square wrapping paper and 2 pieces of square card. Then you need string and a glue stick. You also need a ruler as well to draw the lines for writing on. Next you need to fold the 3 pieces of card and you need the 2 pieces of wrapping paper and get the 2 pieces of card so you can stick them all together. We also put Christmas stamps on the cards and we can write a special message inside our cards. They look real cool.

Last Thursday Mel came into Room 1. She taught us how to make these Christmas Cards. You got a snap lock bag full of card and paper. We glued the coloured paper to the two pieces of card and cut the edges off. After we glued the edges we did heaps more but I can't remember all of it. We folded two pieces of card into quarters and then another one the other way. Before that we put lots of Christmas stamps on the pieces of card and drew lines in two places.
Finally the cards were glued and tied together.

Pets Day

On last Friday Brightwater School had pets day and the children showed the people their pets and there were dogs, cats, lambs, turtles, rabbits, chooks, pigs too. The best pet that I liked was the chooks and some cute little white doves and they were my Grandmas doves. But when the big dogs came around one of the dogs did a poo on the grass right in front of us and it was yucky. Then we had the Dog and Duck show. The dog got the black ducks in one of the boxes and the white ducks in the other box and the dog crouched down on the ground and stared at the ducks. Caleb's big fluffy cat was massive.

It was an awesome day at school.

Making Planes with Mr B.

Last Thursday Room1 made planes with Mr B and they flew really well. We needed bluetack to muck around with and then see if it flies where we put the bluetack. What we need when we make our planes were..... plastic, paper clips, brown tape and cellotape. How we made our planes was... first get a piece of thin brown wood and get a piece of plastic. Then put your hand on the piece of wood and at the end is about the right place where it should be. Next get a smaller piece of plastic and fold it so that the sides are equal then stick it down with brown tap. After that get a bigger piece than the smaller bit and stick it on how it was. Once we had finished our planes Room1 went out to fly and try them. Kerwin plane's was the best flyer out of Room1, his was amazing. When we have our planes we have to make sure that everything is 90o. I really liked my plane because it glided quite well.   by Emily

Raroa

Last Tuesday some kids from a school called Raroa Intermediate came to our school to show us some stuff that we can do when we get older. Some people did juggling, singing, hip hop dancing, the haka and some drumming.  There were three people riding uni-cycles they were doing jumps. There were juggling balls and skittles, choir singing, hip hop girls and a very loud band. I liked the juggling the best because the boys could juggle 3 and 4 balls as well as skittles. It was an incredible show.              by Daniel

Room 1 Fun

Have a look and see some of the fun activities Room 1 has been up to! Science demonstrating Water Tension, the Water Cycle with condensation, crystals and our wonderful vegie garden and Mya's too.

Hiwi Kiwi Show

The sandpaper shark's tail flicked into my Nan's face, she flicked the slimy tail away and said oow! Some of my family were fishing along way from a beach with golden sand in my Grandad's boat that you can sleep in. I put it back in the water with a wet towel with sea water on it.
We only put snapper and other fish that were nice to eat in a bucket of salt water ice and my Mum caught a snapper with eggs. We put it back in the sea very slowly so we didn't hurt her. Everyone was wearing a lifejacket and we stayed on the boat for five nights and 6 days.
Make sure you leave fish for the future for other people to catch them!          by Charlotte

Tree Planting

Guess what Room 1 did last week. We planted trees at school!
There were four people in each group. The people in my group were Emily, Oliver, Blaze and me. If you want to plant a tree you need a shovel, bucket, water and bark. We got a plant, I dug a hole. Blaze put a plant in the hole. Then Emily got some water and put it in the hole. I went to get bark from the pile. I came back and put the bark around the tree.
It was fun planting trees.              by Amy D

FireStation Visit

A few days ago Room 1 went to the Fire Station. The Fire man was called Steve. Steve showed use the new fire truck and it shoots out foam. That was my favourite fire truck of all. They have fire proof clothes to keep them warm and so they don't get burnt.   by Caleb

School Assembly - Dog Safety

Kerwin and Sam the dog

At the School Assembly last Friday we demonstrated tips to keep you safe around dogs. Some children displayed their dog sketches and we sung the song Grumpy Dogs. Torrin read his very descriptive story about Issy his dog who was at assembly with him!

Making Jelly - New World Science Experiment

We made jellies at school and New world - Little Kitchen gave us all the ingredients. Once the jelly was dissolved with boiling water we put a Kiwiana Vine into each container. Then we had to wait for the jelly to set in the fridge. Finally just before home time they were ready and the jelly and vine were really tasty. We learned that the jelly crystals went from a solid to a liquid and when the jelly set it went back to a solid again. Thanks New World - we really enjoyed the opportunity to carry out the experiment.

No Lost Property!

On Friday at our school assembly we won the competition for no lost property in Room 1 for the week.
So we got a free turn on the bike track in school time. I went around eight times.  One time I fell off my bike so I did not want to bike any more. I hurt my leg but we all had lots of fun.    by Miles

St John Visit

Kathryn from St John showed us about keeping ourselves safe. She showed us how to dial a phone; you get your hand and press 1 go 1 go 1 if you want to learn  how to get help when you are in trouble. Kathryn brought an ambulance called Ambie and she told us what it has inside it.    by Katie

School Calendar

Yesterday Room 1 did their calendars.
We did daffodils on the blue and green painted background.
First we practiced on a small sized cardboard platform. I did 10 daffodils on my real copy. The daffodils were yellow and orange. I think my calendar is cool because my daffodils are different sizes.    by Amy D

School Cycle Track

Last Wednesday afternoon Brightwater School celebrated the opening of their new cycle trail which is around the back field. All Syndicates took turns to ride their bikes once the ribbon was cut at the conclusion of the speeches. Children stood beside the track to cheer the riders as they went by.
Just before home time everyone was given a tasty Juicy in a cool push up wrapper.
It was a great day to be a pupil at Brightwater School.
