Brightwater School Olympic Games

Last Friday our school held an Olympic Day, the country I was in was China which came third place in the medals.  I enjoyed high jump the second favourite was the bowling in the hall, my third favourite was wagon pull.  I  liked the wagon pull because there was cushions in the wagon, it was so soft.  The bowling was awesome, I got the cool bowling ball. You have to get the bowling ball into the circle. The leader of my group was Mrs Woodward. The colour of my flag was red and yellow. I also got face paint on me when I was doing weight lifting. At the end the people who got the medals had to stand up in front of everyone.

School Assembly

On Friday our class and Room 3 did the School Assembly, it was  about the Olympics. We marched in through the cones and waved our flags to the people in the hall. At the start we watched a video of people doing sports around New Zealand and it was called Inspiration. Ella was reading the poem, 'The Olympic Verb Race' and Gracie and me did the actions. Nico and Jed gave us gold medals. Our class sang the olympics waving flag song. I loved the song because it has the flags to wave. Children in our class read their sports and country information.
Room 3 did dancing to the song, The Best Day of My Life' and the big girls helped them. It was a really cool assembly and lots of fun.

Our Daily Walk to get to Rio

Room 1 walks or runs around the bike track 3 times. We used to go around two times. We do it everyday because we are pretending to walk to Rio.      Ben

Everyday the whole school is going around the bike track to see how far it is to Rio. Mr Baldwin writes it on his window. We will get fit and get a feeling how far it is to Rio.        Saul

Everyday before lunch we go running around the bike track, why? because it gives us an idea how far it is to Rio, and it also gives us fitness. We run around it three times and the whole school does it.

Mr B's Rockets

We are launching the rockets that Mr B helped us make. It was heaps of fun making them and shooting the rockets in the air.

Bike Day

Room 1 had a bike day on Monday.  I brought my bike to school and I rode it on the bike track ten times.  I also brought my black spotty helmet.  My bike went fast and I passed lots of  people in my class.  It was really fun and when we finished we could go onto the playground but I didn't go on the playground.

Rocket Launch

Room 1 made a rocket out of a fizz bottle  and cardboard. The cardboard was for the fins. We put 1/2 of water in the bottle. After we went to Vince and  put it on a stand very tight. Then Vince and all of us got a turn at pulling the trigger to get air pressure. Then it blasted off high into the air.     by Sophia

School Cross Country

On Friday Brooke L came first in the school cross country and Casey came third. Casey over took two people. We had to run around the bike track two times. Brooke L thought she would come last because she doesn't like the Cross Country. Casey thought she would come fifth. We were very, very happy that the whole school got to see us up the front to get our certificates. We got so, so puffed going up the hill. Brooke L over took one person, it was very fun.    by Casey and Brooke L

Measuring our Shadows

My shadow is
black.
My shadow is
shady as can be.
My shadow
plays tag with me.
My shadow is like
a cloud floating in the sky.
At night I wave my shadow goodbye and it disappears.

Suter Trip at Nelson Library

These are some of our stories about the trip.

At the Nelson Library we mixed the colours. We read a book called, My Many Coloured Days.
Different colours can make different feelings, happy, sad and excited. Purple makes me excited, grey makes me bored and blue makes me happy. It was at the Nelson Suter Library. My favourite was the painting of the man. I painted it dark pink.                       by Hazel

We went to the Nelson Library  and we did some art at the Suter Room. We were doing stuff all about colours. Pink makes you happy and black makes you sad. I will tell you some of them. Purple makes me relaxed, brown is a very sad colour. Different colours make you have different feelings like sad, happy, excited and there is a lot of other ones too.                               by Casey

We went to the Nelson Library and we painted a person. We picked up pastels and wrote our feelings down on a piece of paper. I will tell you some of the feelings, happy, sad, scared and frightened. Purple makes me feel happy and grey makes me feel sad.
The lady read us a Dr Seuss story called, 'My Many Coloured Days.'               by Sophia

I went to the Suter. It was a room in the Nelson Library. My favourite thing that I did there was colouring my ginger-bread man, purple. We got a story read to us. It was called, My Many Coloured Days. My Many Coloured Days was by Dr Seuss. Sometimes colours can have feelings in them. On blue days I'm bored. Bored as can be you see. Colours have feelings in them too.            By Connor

Space

We have been learning about the 9 planets in the Solar System, also our moon and the sun.
These are the craters that we made.
Mr B showed us how the planets stay in orbit around the sun by turning a bucket of water in a circle really fast and no water came out because of the centrifugal force - it was really cool to watch.
Yesterday Room 1 did a really fun experiment. Craters on the moon are formed by asteroids, meteorites or comets when they collide with the surface. The craters will never erode away because there is no wind or rain on the moon.

Chemical Popgun

There is a big mess on the ceiling in Room 1.
We put vinegar and baking soda in a small plastic bottle and quickly put a cork in the top of the bottle. There was a chemical reaction and and the resulting carbon dioxide gas blew the cork and fizzy, bubbly mixture up very high onto our ceiling. It dripped down and made a mess on the white ceiling.
The mixture exploded! It was lots of fun.

Making Sherbet

It was real yummy and fizzy in our mouths!
We made sherbet using icing sugar, raro crystals, baking soda, citric acid and tartaric acid. When all the ingredients were mixed together we looked at and tasted each of them and some were yummy and others were yucky. The fluid in our mouths mixed with the sherbet and made the carbon dioxide bubbles.
