School Market Day

Room 1's stall

On Friday Brightwater School had a market. I was really excited. When it came, first up I was a shopkeeper at Room 1's stall. I felt happy, we were selling bags of pinecones, pinecone creatures, decorated bottles, decorated biscuits and more. Everyone had school money, $5, $2 and $1, and it was $20 altogether. We had it in a small, plastic bag. I want to have another one because it was so much fun. We got $225 for selling stuff on our stall.                                                                   Kate

Discovery Time

Room 1 does cool stuff at Discovery Time.
There are tennis rackets and balls that are hit against the wall. We can do making BrainBox which is electricity stuff. We play with the blocks, stacking them and make buildings. Room 1 paints and draws. We play with the bouncing balls and we throw them on the wall. Our class can play with the playdough to cut, roll and make things. There is a big bouncy ball that is a tennis ball and we can play Piggy in the Middle.
Jacob's Mum  brought us a pile of dirt so that we can dig and make roads. We also play on the computers and ipads. It is the best time at school each week.       by Nate and Will

Suter Gallery and Museum Visits

Wow! we had such an amazing time last week. First we visited the Suter gallery and there was lots of different maori people and containers made of clay. The people only had three fingers. After we had a look at everything our class went to a small room with some adults. The lady gave us a piece of clay each and we weren't allowed to play with it. Our first job was to make a ball and squeeze it into a star with five points - Patrick Star! We made a head, two arms and two legs.
Room 1 and 2 had lunch at the Queen's Gardens and there were ducks everywhere because they wanted our food.
At the Museum Nicky told us lots about plants and so did some parents. Sue helped us do sketching, Rosa's made told us about the food chain, Lucy W's Dad taught us about native plants and Lucas's Mum showed us the parts of plants. We all learned lots of new things.

It was a very, very windy Sunday for Brightwater School's annual Gala.
I did Wack the Rat and I got a hot dog. I also took all the photos. (Nate)
I went rock climbing and when I went to go I got some Susi to eat.   (Seth)

Pool Party

Room 1 earned  a class treat and we chose to have an exciting pool party. Children brought water guns, boogie boards and other water toys such as a horse!
We had buckets of fun such as having water fights, squirting Mrs Roberts and diving into the warm pool.
When we were squirted we felt sad, cold, shocked and we were ducking from the water guns. It was funny and Room 1 would be really, really pleased to have another pool party.

Our Scary Scarecrow!

We made a scarecrow at school yesterday and it will be sold at our School Gala next weekend.

First we had to put the shirt on the wooden cross and then we did up the buttons so Room 1 children could  full it with hay which was quite tricky. The scarecrow looked very fat and he has gloves for his hands. Next, some children tied the bottoms of the trouser legs and they were also filled with hay. Mrs Roberts put a hole in the seat of the trousers so the stick could go through it and the shirt was pinned to the trousers so that they didn't fall down! Finally we filled an old sack to make a head and tied it onto the stick above the shirt. A face was painted on it and we think our scarecrow looks rather strange.

School Picnic at Rabbit Island

On Wednesday Brightwater School went to the deadly Rabbit Island. It was very deadly because there were lots of dead things on the beach like 3 blue penguins,  a fur seal, 3 seagulls, 1 yellow eyed penguin, 2 shark heads and 2 baby white sharks.
First the Juniors did the beach walk and that was when we found all the stinky dead animals. Mrs Lines let us climb on the hut that someone had made but then we had to move on. We played games second. Holly played cricket and  Jaymee played baseball with Tessa and Lucy. We had lunch then lucky last it was time for the Juniors to do beach art in the sand. Holly, Jaymee, Toby, Ashlee and Sarah + Madeline made a dragon. When the Juniors went back to the picnic area the whole school got a juicy. It was really cold but tasted real yummy.
We waited  until most people had finished eating the juicy and then we were off with our parents and drivers back to the fantastic Brightwater school.
That was our big day at Rabbit Island, we are still all tired after that exciting and
incredible day.

Dressup Party

In the weekend I had my Dress Up Christmas  Party.  It was on Sunday and James  was  the  Incredible Hulk!!. Charlie wasn't dressed up so I thought he wasn't interested in dressing up.
At the party we went on the BMX Track with our bikes and we lined up at the start. Some of us had our own bikes and we shared each others bikes.
We had treats like chippies, fairy bread, lolly cake and chocolate sticks.
It was the best party because most of my friends came to it.

Pets Day

On Friday Room 1 had a fantastic fun Pets Day. In Room 1 there was about 10 people that brought pets. I was one of the people that brought a pet. The pets I brought was my Grandma's KITTENS. The mum cat was called Arrow. At Pets Day there was a truck load of pets. More than I thought. All of the pets came after we had lunch and the Wheels Thing was after Morning tea.
The only person in Room 1 was Jaymee that did the Wheels Display. The wheel thing Jaymee did was roller skates. She had to wear some special socks so that her roller skates did not get scratched.     by Maia

In the afternoon the first thing was Mr Dobbie sheared sheep. He sheared  about four sheep. I was  going to bring my cat called Poluma but I  couldn't  because I  was in after school care.  There were  ponies  and lambs. The sheep used to be Mrs Roberts now they have babies of their own. Keeley brought her dog Sunny.

Class Treat

Yesterday we had a class treat because we got ten marbles in the jar.
For our class treat we had a Wheels Day. Toby brought a giant remote control jeep. I brought my BMX bike. It is white and green and I rode it really fast around the cones on the concrete behind Room's 1 and 2. Finn crashed on his bike but he was okay.

I WISH I COULD DO ANOTHER WHEELS DAY!

Raroa Intermediate's Fabulous Show

Raroa Intermediate came from Wellington to preform a show in our hall. First there was the maori culture and they were singing and poking out their tongues. They came on two buses.

The balancing  boy was very intelligent at balancing a chair on his nose. There was orchestra like guitar, drum, 4 keyboards and flute. Two girls sang a song while the orchestra was playing the music. It was a fantastic show and I really enjoyed it.
