A Busy WeeK!

On Friday morning the whole school watched the "Jack Flash and the Beanstalk Drama Show" and it was very funny but had an important message about not dropping your rubbish and using the 3R's (reuse, reduce, recycle) instead.
To end the week and to celebrate Matariki we had a delicious Hangi for our lunch. Mr H cooked the food in a big pit on the back field. We had yummy kumera, potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, lamb, pork and chicken. While we were waiting for the food to be served the older children helped us do some weaving with flax.

School Cross Country

Charlotte and Amy D finished 2nd and 4th in their race
Amy W is running really fast!
Michael and Caleb were 2nd and 3rd in the junior boys race

The weather was fine so we finally had the school's cross country races which took place at school. Room 1 children did really well and all of them managed to run all the way without stopping.

Jonny

Once upon a time there was a little boy and his name was Jonny. He belongs to Sally but then he ran away from her. He ran as fast as he could until he hit the jungle and he heard a thumping noise.  It was a giant!  He screamed until the noise stopped.  He ran back to his house and cuddled his mum and never ever ran away from home because he didn't want to see that giant anymore.

Swimming lessons

I went to the Aquatic Centre and I did backstroke with a kick-board. I swam on my side and did freestyle with out a kick

-board too. We did brain, goggle, cheek with Room one and Room two. We did mushrooms at the end of our lesson and we got there on the bus. The pool that we were in was really deep in water and at the end of our lessons we had a race.              By Harrison

Anzac Ceremony at School

On Friday we had a ceremony at school to celebrate about the soldiers that went to war and died in the war. The whole school had lunch together on the front lawn. There were four airforce people who came Brightwater School.  I liked the ceremony because I liked the music.

Farm visit

Wow! Room 1 had the most amazing mushroom hunt on a hill. We found lots of big mushrooms.
Mya saw a cockatiel that dipped his malt biscuit in the water.
"The Easter Egg Hunt was really fun," said Michael. Niko collected the birds feathers and we saw a tiny egg.
Room 1 visited Rex and Viv's farm at Neudorf Road in Upper Moutere. We saw heaps of different parrots and they were very colourful. Two parrots were in the garage and we were allowed to hold them and it felt like a blade on your arm.

Kiwi Sports

Yesterday it was Kiwisports Day at the Brightwater Domain, it was cool and exciting. I liked the colourful parachute because we threw balls on it and tried to keep them on. I was in Team 14  and we also played rugby. It was our last activity. There were 18 teams from Appleby, Ranzau, Hope and Wakefield Schools, and also Brightwater too.

School Auction and Gala

Yesterday we went to the Gala. It was fun. I went in the bouncy castle. I played tag with my brothers. I played in a Zob Ball with my brother and it was hard to stand up because it was on water. I bought a bear and a tiger. I got an American Hot Dog and my Mum had a Fish Burger. I had a taste of it.   By Matteo

Pool Party

In the week I was squirting at people with my water pistol and splashing water in our school pool. I was diving in the pool and we got 10 marbles in the jar so we had a class treat.

School Assembly

Last Assembly it was our Assembly time. Room 10 did it with us. Claudia sang a song. I think it is called Daisy, Daisy. They showed what the kids are doing in the Weetbix Triathalon. They showed us the Cricket World Cup.
Room 1 talked about the parrots and Michael was hosting it. I got to read about a kea and stuffed one was there too. Our class read a pirate poem. It was about a parrot.
Everyone thought our Assembly was lots of fun to watch.

Crazy Scientist

Richard made a big bubble and he got a big rope. He threw the rope to the left. He also made a volcano that kept on spreading across the table. He blew a dog up from his breath and at the end he gave the dog away to the girl because she helped him.

He put a small, red ball in his pocket and it came out his mouth! Richard twirled three metal rings around and when he talking they clipped together.
I loved it when he put the two pencil his fingers and when he was shaking his fingers they didn't come off. The show was really silly but it was cool.

PE - Catching a Ball

This is how you catch a ball.
1. Look at the ball.
2. Get your hands ready.
3. Reach for the ball.
4. Make a W shape with your hands.
by Michael

This is how I catch a ball.
You needs your hands like a W or an M. Next step you need your eyes on the ball when you are catching. Then move to ball. Last reach for the ball.

Museum Visit

Room's 1 trip to the Nelson Museum was lots of fun. Nicky told us all about parrots that live in New Zealand. We sketched them and made a bar graph too. Some parrots have bands on their legs so they can be tracked and traps are used to catch their enemies like rats.

2015

Room 1 has had a great start to the year. We have been swimming, writing stories, practising basic facts for maths and setting up our books.
Please read our blog to see what we get up to during the year and a comment would be real cool.
