End of Term 2 Activities

It was a busy end to the term.
We had a Wheels Day as a class treat, made kites to celebrate 'Matariki' and had a scooter safety lesson.

Cross Country

On a sunny Friday afternoon Room 1, 2 and 3 did the cross country. It was fun. The boys went together, all the girls went together in the race. We had to go two times around the bike track. I was puffed after the race. We had to go up a hill. I really enjoyed the cross country. I saw my mum when I was running and she was with her friends. Her friends where Megan and Hanna, their kids, Bran and Polly, my brother too. The whole school did it.   by Stella

Lanscape Chalk Pastels

Our class made landscape pictures with chalk pastels and I made one with a hill in the middle of the river. Also there were three trees and hills behind it, then a beautiful sun set with glowing pink clouds and yellow sky.  Mrs Roberts put something to make it look shiny - clear varnish. We needed to use warm and cold colours in our pictures.    By Ariana             

Making Porridge

My class had science on Tuesday. It was making porridge. First we put rolled oats into the hot water and we stirred it up. Next we watched it get bigger. Next we set the bowls up. There was a little bowl, a big boll and a medium bowl. We put all the porridge into each bowl. But we did not get to eat it. The medium bowl stayed the hottest because the bowl was deeper and it had a small surface area and I thought the big bowl would be

Busy Week

Room 1 has been very busy with two weeks of swimming lessons at the Aquatic Centre and then taking the school assembly on Friday. The children had lots of fun at the pool and their swimming ability really improved. Assembly featured Autumn art work, poems and swimming lesson demonstrations.

Room 1 Visitor

 Caleb's Mum brought his new puppy Sally to school this morning. She is eight weeks old and very cute.
We all patted her as she sped around our classroom.

Three Little Pigs Houses

We made houses in our Inquiry Groups and put straw, sticks or bricks on the roofs just like in the Three Little Pigs story. Next we tried to blow them with a straw and see if the tissue paper inside would move at all. It was lots of fun and all the houses were quite strong.

Memorial visits

Yesterday Room One went to Lord Rutherford Road to see the statue of Lord Rutherford when he was a little. He was famous  because he split the atom. The jobs he had to do were to look after the garden. He also had to be a scarecrow. He was a scientist. His brothers died because two of them died in a boat. The boat tipped over and they drowned. Also, one little brother had hooping cough. by Stella
Yesterday Room One went to see the war memorial and the Lord Rutherford one. He was a scientist. The wall is a split like an atom. When he was little he went to three schools. Their names are Foxhill, Nelson College and Canterbury. He is a very important man and he is on our $100 notes and stamps. His jobs were milking the cows and being a scarecrow to scare the crows from the veggie garden.

Road Safety

Yesterday I  went with Oliver.  The whole Brightwater School went to a road safety demonstration and they saw a car go 60km. They bashed into the cardboard people and they went 50km and it was fun. On the 50km they didn't crash into the cardboard people.

Electronics Treat

For Electronics Day in Room 1 I brought a book and it has a button that you push  it and it makes  a noise. It is like a Christmas noise. It is very special to me because I got it from my Great Grandad Roy.   By Laylah

Our Buddy School

 These photographs are of our postcards and the puzzle we coloured in was in the Wanderers colours. We wrote about our favourite place in the Nelson area and then drew a picture of it.

Sports Day

Brightwater School Junior Syndicate went out to Wakefield School last Wednesday for the Sports Day. We did six different activities and it was lots of fun. Appleby, Ranzau and Hope Schools were there too.

Pool Party and Reusing materials

Last Friday afternoon Room 1 and 2 had a combined pool party at school to celebrate a great start to the year.
There was no wind, it was cloudy and even the pool was quite warm so ideal conditions for water pistol fights and riding boogie boards.






Room 1 is trying to help Brightwater School reduce the amount of rubbish going in the skip. The school now has a much smaller one and the children reused a lot of materials during Discovery Time to construct various objects such as sand timers, money boxes and rockets.
