Oral Language

We have been learning to ask questions after people have shared their news. This makes sure we are listening and thinking about what is being said. At first we found asking questions confusing and got them mixed up with comments. We think we are pretty good at it now!

Have a listen to Jorja, Paris and Daniel's news from the weekend and the questions we had for them.

The Variety Bash

The Variety Bash came to Brightwater School to raise money for sick kids. Vroom,
all the cars came in with yummy treats and a funny show. My favourite part was
the underpants trick. Woosh, water came outof the fire truck hose.
- Daniel

Today the Variety Bash came. The cars raced into the school. We got delicious
yummy treats. Lots of people had hilarious hats. When Variety Bash was here
we got soaking wet. The super hero show was hilarious and magic and he
picked two people to go up. MT meant empty.

Oral Language

In Room 1 we do a variety of Oral Language activities during the week including sharing news, Mystery Bag (open ended questions), Maori Language, buzz groups, donut speeches, and listening activities. We focus on making sure we are speaking clearly and being good listeners. We discussed exactly what a good listener and a good speaker does.

Today we shared our news in buzz groups and then came back as a class. Haylee, Jamie, Piper, Liam, Chloe and Josh then presented their news to the whole class.
Have a listen to their exciting weekends:

Problem Solving

On Friday we did a range of problem solving activities for Maths.

One of our activities involved estimating. We found out this means to think hard and make a sensible guess.

Our problem was: How many cubes does it take to make a 1 metre tall tower?

We estimated:
Marcus - 15 Kathryn - 60
Taine - 30 Matthew - 60
Haylee - 50 Liam - 50
Jarrad - 10

Then we measured and found the actual answer.

Results: It took 54 cubes to make a 1metre tall tower. None of us were correct but Liam and Haylee were the closest.
