Free time in the pool!

We are so lucky at Brightwater School to have our own swimming pool. We get to go swimming every day after lunch with Room 2. We have swimming lessons Monday-Thursday and then on Friday we get a chance for free time! Check out some of the photos of us having fun in the pool!

Buddy Class

This year Room 1 are super lucky to have Room 11 as our buddy class.

Today Room 11 came into our class and helped us with our spelling tests, then we read stories to each other and showed them our work around the room.

We had lots of fun with the big kids and can't wait for buddy class time next week.

Sam Shelling's Special Visitors

Today I took a guinea pig and rabbit to school. They like lettuce and guinea pig and rabbit food. Sneaky and Max are their names. They are soft and cuddly.

Making our own graphs

The class worked in pairs to make a Room 1s Favourite Colour graph. They were all very clever.

Making a graph.

We found out that red was the most popular colour in Room 1.

Caleb's Seaweed

In the weekend I went on my boat and I caught a shark and I went to the old whaling station. My mum caught seaweed and it is stinky.
Mum says it is the fastest growing plant in New Zealand.

Writing: In the holidays....

In the holidays I went to Pohara with Mum, Dad, Riley and Elliot. We slept in a tent. One night I slept in the little tent by myself.

In the holidays I went camping and my dad made a swing. We had fun. There was lots of grass and dirt.

In the holidays I went to the bach for my sister Abbie’s birthday. It was at Pohara. Mum and Dad gave her a blue bike. She loved it and so did I as well. We went to the beach. I saw my friend at the beach in Pohara and I went to my next door neighbours.

In the holidays I had a zhu zhu pet called Jilly and she broke down so my dad got another zhu zhu pet called Rocko. He says “ha-ha”. He is brown. I went to Yogi Bear and it was funny.

Reading with Expression

We have been practising how to read with expression. Jorja and Ellie chose one of their favourite stories from the book shelf and recorded themselves reading it.

Do you think they have used lots of expression???

Garage Band Poems

One of our rotations during reading is to practise reading fluently. Sometimes we do this on the computer. We record our voices on Garage Band and then listen to see if we were fluent and if we used expression. This is one of Kathryn and Jorja's first attempts.
The class enjoys using Garage Band independently, they are so clever.

Writing - Using interesting words.

Last week I traveled on a train with Nana. I heard the engine rumbling. When we hit the tunnel it was spooky. It went super fast until it slowed down for the people that were waiting at the station for a long time.

Writing - 5W Poems

We wrote 5 W poems last week.
A 5 W poem has 5 lines which answer 5 of our question words crating a poem. It helps us to record lots of details.

Line 1 = Who
Line 2 = What
Line 3 = When
Line 4 = Where
Line 5 = Why

Here are some examples:

The ducks
Floated down the rapids
In a big lake
In summer
Because they were hot.
By Ollie

The giraffes
Munch on a juicy sweet leaf
In the morning for breakfast
At the amazing zoo
Because they were hungry.
By Shaynae

Miss Brown
Got told off
Yesterday
In Mr Baldwin's office
For giving us homework.
By Taine

The dog
Bit me
On Friday
At Home
Because I was annoying him.

Broadgreen House

These are a few photos from our trip to Broadgreen House. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos inside of the amazing house. Everyone had a really good time and we were amazed at how much life has changed. We are glad we no longer have to use a chamber pot when we need to go to the toilet...yuck! Although, we really would like to have our own maids! We all decided that we are lucky we have electricity! It must have been so hard without it!
